Skyline of summertime.

The comic-shop across the street asked me to do a card. To let his clients know when he will be closed for the hollidays. The sun in squares is his logo and all the info is on the back to keep it a nice clean picture.

This is the second card he asked me to do. The first one was last christmas. No money involved. I get to pick a book from his shop. And I picked this one.

It's priceless. It's hardcover. And it's huge. (45/31 cm)
The character is called G. Rafzerk. He's a gravedigger and works on a cemetery where the dead seem to be not so dead after all. Pierre Tombal in French. Like to see more? Click the title of this post to go the Pierre Tombal website.

Fruits and vitamins.

A few years ago I was asked to do some food-illustrations for a cereal package. The art-director wanted me to do them by hand. No computer involved. I used airbrush, gouache and pencil. Different illustrations for different tastes.

Looking backwards.

It's more than 20 years ago that I did a comic for TINA.
A comic-magazine for girls. Most of the magazine had (and still has)
these typical semi-realistictly drawn girl-comics about horses,
make-up, popstars and so on.
My comic was one of the few in a cartoon style.
A few weeks ago I got an email from the magazine that they found
some of my old originals in the archives.
And they were going to send them to me.

An example of what I did for a living 20 years ago.

Workshop

The Dutch comic magazine ZONE 5300 organised a comic battle for young people.
Click the title of this post for the ZONE website.
Part of the prize was a workshop by a professional illustrator.
Yesterday was the day. A sunday afternoon.
Some pictures of the winning ladys at work in my studio.

East meets West.

Long ago since my last post. A try-out for the new blogger.
A comic I'm working on for a book that will come out next year called East meets West.
Here's the character. The sign on his stick means "human".

And the first four pages in pencil.

Prins and Ploes.

Last summer we had a short Prins and Ploes musical in holiday park Duinrell. Next year we will have the opportunity to do a show in the small theatre. A short movie maybe that runs in a loop all day long. I scribbled out a scene where Prins wakes up Ploes to go and pick apples. But Ploes is having a dream about her former city life. And for a moment she is scared by the big blue dog.

The black and white picture of the horse is the start.

Cathys Corner nr 2.

You know that? You travel 700 km to be away from home and to see some new faces. You go straight from the train to the snow. And the first thing you hear is your own name. In your local dialect. GGGRRRRR.
