Prins and Ploes.

Last summer we had a short Prins and Ploes musical in holiday park Duinrell. Next year we will have the opportunity to do a show in the small theatre. A short movie maybe that runs in a loop all day long. I scribbled out a scene where Prins wakes up Ploes to go and pick apples. But Ploes is having a dream about her former city life. And for a moment she is scared by the big blue dog.

The black and white picture of the horse is the start.

Cathys Corner nr 2.

You know that? You travel 700 km to be away from home and to see some new faces. You go straight from the train to the snow. And the first thing you hear is your own name. In your local dialect. GGGRRRRR.

From rough scribble to clear ink.

A new placemat for restaurant Witloof. Winter is coming.
The idea was building a snowman.
I put the characters to work in some quick scribbles.

When the snowman was finished they wanted to take a picture. Proud as they were.

But they were not to happy with it. Let's build a bigger snowman.

And do some cleaning on this sketch.
With pencil.

And with inkt.
Have a nice meal.

Wind.

This picture must be more than 10 years old. I do not have a digital file. It was all done by hand. And I have no idea where the original is. Somewhere in the archives of my publisher I suppose. I scanned this picture from the printed postcard. What a stupid perspective in the arms.
No wonder no one bought the card.
:-)

Smitten.

Smitten is the new topic for Illustration Friday. First time I saw the word. The online dictionary came up with this:
1. affected by something overwhelming; "conscience-smitten"; "awe-struck".
2. marked by foolish or unreasoning fondness; "she was crazy about him"; "gaga over the rock group's new album"; "he was infatuated with her".

Could this illo fit the topic?

Cathys corner number 1.

Here's the first episode of the new comic for the november issue of the local UIT magazine. Cathy has her own bar. And she keeps it open after hours for people that have to work late. ;-)

The big Prins and Ploes book.

A big book will be created for the Prins and Ploes campagne. Realy big. The size of a newspaper. It will be used as an introduction befor telling Prins and Ploes stories in librarys and schools.

The cover of the book will look something like this.

A sketch for the introduction of all the small animals on the farm.

And these are the bigger animals.

Some time ago I showed an empty shop-display for the handpuppets in the Prins and Ploes campagne. Lots of white space to fill. Collect all eleven. The display is finished. And the puppets are too. It looks great. Width 95 cm. Now in a petshop near you. If you live in Holland. ;-)

In my six pages horror-story (see previous post) the main character is a woman. At some point in the story she meets herself as a little girl. A cute little girl.

Young talent.

When I was young many professional drawers made time for me. I visited them and send them drawings by mail. Old fashioned mail in an enveloppe. Not email. It was the eighties. They phoned me back to tell me my work was rubbisch. And they told me why. Now that I am a professional myself I try to do the same. At the moment I am working with the very talented 14-year old Jordy Knoop. ( Click the title of this post to go to his daily danger website.) We're doing a story about a bankrobery. With lots of cars. Cars are difficult and I try to push him to do difficult things. Doing easy things over and over again doesn't make you better. Here's a sketch for a car from him.

And this is my reply where I try to show him that he shouln't waste so much time on the details. It's more important to get a grip on the total shape so you can play with the car and put the camera where you want.

Pink and green.

Found this funny illusion in my email. Follow the moving dot with your eyes and it stays pink. Concentrate on the + in the center and the moving dot turns green. Concentrate on the + for a bit longer and the the pink dots disapear completely. Crazy brain we have.

    Cereals.

For the package in my previous post I also did the main ingredients. It was fun to take a closer look at these small plants. You need realy good documentation. And when I see them in the fields now I remember this job. These plants are very important. The world feeds on them.

    Wheat.

    Rye.

    Oats.

    Rice.

    No more rain.

Because I'll have my own umbrella soon.
Papabrella in fact because it will look like Papakraai.
    Here's a picure of him.

And this is my design for the umbrella. Can't wait to see the real thing.

    The World Cup is over.

    Portugal was the better team.

    I'm sorry.

Oh, oh, one of my three regular visitors complained. I should post more often.

    7,...6,...5,...4,...

Yesterdayevening the team under 21 wrote history. The first time a Dutch team under 21 reaches the final of a big tournament. And they won.
European Champion. Wauw, if that was a preview for the coming worldcup.
Young players grow up fast. As shown on the cover of the KNVB anual.

    9...8....

Dutch soccer is doing great. Yesterday the team under 21 beat France and reached the final of the European Championship.
The big team played a testmatch against Mexico. And they won too. The orange dream is getting bigger and bigger.

The (sort of) logo we started with. Jan had a Turkisch father. That's where the black string of hair comes from.
