In the post "and one more for the day" you see a headturn of a dog.
Promised to tell you more. Here's another preview.
A photo of me and two of my characters.
Click the title of this post to go to the website of the company that did the costumes. On the right you see a little movie with a door which is the leader of our tv-show.

A second placemat for restaurant Witloof.
Spring is in the air.
In my very first post I told you about this new restaurant in Maastricht. This thing is going crazy. We're actualy thinking about a real story now. Nothing to work with for the moment but the restaurant is doing great and they want to print a new placemat with a new drawing. The idea is to do a "first day of spring-moment" at the table with the characters we have. Here's the first big sketch. I build a stage and than placed the characters. One thing I was sure of. I wanted a good view on top of the table. To show all the food, drinks and other props. That are not there yet. Gonna be fun doing the details.
Meanwhile back at the studio.
Here's the new version with details.
It's finished!!!!!
Hope we can find a nice red.
To be contnued in placemat nr 3.

500 visits.
WOW. 500 visitors exactly in my first week of blogging. Are you coming back for a second view? Let me know.
Went through my archives to find something suitable for the occasion. Found these old finelinersketches of Max and put some color in them.
Dragged them into ImageReady just for fun. Click the title of this post to see him come alive.

Collages.
My little nephews.
My brother and sister both have a son. They are more or less the same age and since they are born I'm thinking about turning them into drawings.
Look at this picture and you'll understand why.
I've worked with them fully digital.
Did some handwork in brush and ink with colors in photoshop.
And a test in acrylics and water.
Which is a detail of this sketch.
Can't decide how to continue.
Any suggestions?

And one more for the day.
Lazy days.
Party coming up.
In some weeks the south of Holland is going to be one big party for four days. Carnaval is on it's way. Lots of opportunities for illustrators. Funny paintings on windows of bars, designs for the big parade and all sorts of flyers and other paperwork to do.
Last year I did the backcover of the official carnaval newspaper for the city.
In the white banner the logo of the company that payed for it.
The text says something like: "We hope you have a crazy carnaval" in the local dialect.
Printsize was 42/29,7 cm
And here's a photograph of my girlfriend and me dressed up as two of my old comic-characters in front of a bar-window I painted them on.
Max and Mummie they were called.
I'll tell you more about them in the new year.
And a carnaval-quickie I did just for fun.

Cookiemonster
Some years ago I worked for the Dutch SesameStreet-magazin. Here's a sketch for Cookie. In those days (1998) the sketch was send to America by fax en came back by mail. In an envelope, not e-mail.
And with an overlay if there were any charactermistakes.
Placing cookies pupils wrong was a stupid mistake. The blue pencil is the correction that came back.

My first post.
A placemat for Witloof.
A job I started some weeks ago for a new restaurant in
Maastricht. They came up with a wonderfull idea. Because the restaurant is in a Belgium style they wanted to give their guests the idea that there is a comic-series specially made for the restaurant.
Belgium is famous for it's comics as you know.
To start with I got a series of photographes of these lovely people.
And here are some of the first sketches of the characters.
A first clean-up to define the style a bit.
The final illustration.
And this is what the tables look like in the restaurant.
The waiter is a comicfan and wanted me to sign one. Hi,hi.
